Privacy

The calculators on this site run entirely in your browser: the arithmetic happens on the page, and nothing you type is posted to a server. What that does not mean is that no data exists at all — the site is served through a content delivery network, which sees ordinary web request information, and your measurements travel in the page address. This notice says exactly what is collected, by whom, and what you can do about it.

Who is responsible for this site

FabricMeasure is an independent site run by one person, based in Switzerland, published under the name Wickeey and contactable at hello@fabricmeasure.com. That address is monitored and is the right place for any question about this notice or any request described under your rights below.

What the calculators do with your measurements

The arithmetic happens in JavaScript in your browser. There is no application server, no database and no form submission: nothing you type is posted anywhere, and no measurement is stored by this site.

Two things do happen with what you enter, and both are visible to you:

Hosting, and the request information that follows from it

The site is a set of static files served by Cloudflare, which acts as host and content delivery network and is a processor for this purpose. As with any website, delivering a page means Cloudflare's network receives the ordinary information contained in a web request: your IP address, the page address requested, the referring page, and your browser's user-agent string. Cloudflare processes this to serve the site and to protect it from abuse, under its own terms and retention periods.

Because the calculators encode your inputs in the page address, those measurements are part of the address that appears in those logs. They are dimensions of curtains and cushions rather than anything about you, but this notice would be wrong to say they never reach anyone's server, and so it does not say that.

Analytics

Analytics are used for one thing: seeing which tools people find useful and which searches bring them here, so that what gets built next is decided by demand rather than by guessing. No measurement you enter is sent as an analytics event in its own right.

Cloudflare Web Analytics is running on every page. It is cookieless and aggregate-only: it sets nothing on your device, assigns no identifier, and cannot follow you between sites or between visits. It records the page address, the referrer and coarse technical information about the request. Because it sets and reads nothing on your device, it does not require consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and it is run on the lawful basis of legitimate interests — understanding which pages are used, in a form that cannot identify anybody.

Google Analytics is not used on this site.

Advertising

This site currently carries no advertising and loads no advertising script. It is intended to be funded by advertising in future. When that happens this section will be replaced with a full description of the cookies used and the consent mechanism, and that description will be published before any ad tag is loaded — not afterwards.

Cookies and similar technologies

FabricMeasure sets no cookies of its own. What it does use is your browser's local storage, for the three preference keys named above — fm-units, fm-cut and fm-theme. The rules that govern cookies in Switzerland, the EEA and the UK cover any storage on your device, not only cookies, so they are named here rather than treated as invisible. All three are strictly necessary to provide the preference you asked for, hold no identifier, and require no consent.

No third party currently sets a cookie on this site, because no third-party advertising or cookie-setting analytics script is loaded.

Your rights

This site is run from Switzerland and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection applies to it. Where information about you is processed, that Act — and, for visitors in the EEA or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR — gives you the right to ask for access to it, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.

In practice this site holds very little to which those rights can attach: it stores no measurements, keeps no accounts, and runs no cookie-setting analytics. Request information seen in the course of delivering pages is held by Cloudflare under its own policy, and a request about it is best made to both of us — write to hello@fabricmeasure.com and it will be answered, and passed on where it needs to be.

If you are not satisfied with how a request has been handled, you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Switzerland that is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner. If you are in the EEA it is your own national supervisory authority, and if you are in the United Kingdom it is the Information Commissioner's Office.

Retention, transfers and children

This site retains nothing, because it collects nothing to retain. Request and analytics information is held by the providers named above for their own stated periods. Those providers operate globally, so processing may take place outside Switzerland, the EEA and the UK under the transfer safeguards in their own terms. The site is a reference tool for a general audience and is not directed at children, and it collects nothing that would identify one.

Changes to this notice

The date at the top of this page is the date the notice last changed. The sections describing analytics and advertising are generated from the same settings that decide what the site actually loads, so this page cannot describe a script that is not running, or stay silent about one that is.
